Chalk Talk Alphabet

About this freebie

The Chalk Talk Alphabet is a free digital alphabet for your school layouts. This download includes 42 separate transparent PNG files featuring tall hand drawn chalk letters. You get letters A to Z, numbers 0 to 9, and basic punctuation marks. The chalk effect looks great layered over dark chalkboard papers. The palette includes paper white, apple red, pencil yellow, chalk green, crayon blue, and graphite. These letters are drawn from a font released under the SIL Open Font License.

Ideas for using it

1. Spell out your child's grade or teacher name on a first day of school layout using the apple red and pencil yellow letters.
2. Create a custom teacher appreciation card with the chalk green and paper white characters. You can print the finished card to give away.
3. Build a bold page title for a graduation scrapbook layout. Mix the crayon blue and graphite letters for a fun handwritten look.

How to use it

• Each letter is a separate PNG file. You can drag and drop them onto your page to make a scrapbook title.
• The letters are about 600 to 900 pixels tall. This prints at 2 to 3 inches when your layout is set to 300 dpi.
• Place these transparent files directly over a dark background. The chalk texture shows up best when you avoid using drop shadows.
• If you are new to working with individual PNG letters, read our guide on how to use digital alphabets for helpful software steps.
• Each character is its own transparent PNG file. Place letters on separate layers and line them up on one baseline.
• Resize all letters of a word by the same amount so they stay consistent.
